Feedstation food?

Me again!

I also have some quite serious digestive issues (IBS mainly) and need to be careful about what I eat. How can I navigate feed stations? I considered carrying everything I will eat, but that might be a lot!

Same issue here. I carry gels with me and hydratition mix. Enough so that I can make it through the event. On feed stations only unprocessed food that I know works for me (Banana, cooked eggs …). Everything else is just not worth the risk.

Second miffedoldpizza’s comment - I carry enough to get me through. Sometimes organisers will post what they will have online or you could ask a previous participant - ultimately, sometimes it’s safer to carry more though!

Hey Billboy!

Definitely follow the advise here, that’s what I would suggest. Consider training your gut on the food they will have at feed stations, but have a back-up plan too!

Yes organizers will post. So you think. I recall one event where they had some hydration I really like advertised with the flavour I can deal with. You know what happened on the event ? They had everything premixed, swapped out the flavour and did not label it. So I ended up 4 hours with nothing to drink. So rather have everything for plan B and be pleasantly surprised if there is more than the minimum.

Oof! Good point there. Again, another reason to aim to be self-sufficient

Thanks for the suggestions on here! Not really what I wanted, but it’s good to know that I’m not alone, and I will definitely be more prepared.

Have you seen a nutritionist that specialises in IBS?

Is it reasonably local to you? Could you cache a bag of stores in a bag behind a tree or other discreet hiding place? It’s what we’ve done before for long fell running events / trips in the mountains

Hey! I’m in a similar position with IBS and have really struggled with it. Its a pain but I usually carry my own fuel that i know works for me - ive started using Hammer Nutrition products as ive found them to be much better on my digestion - no fructose and a lot of natural ingredients. The Perpetuem is like liquid food that can be made in a bottle to last 4 or 5 hours. So for a couple of hundred KMs i can carry one extra serving, a few bars and gels and i know i should be ok.

Happy to chat more if it helps. Pav and I have been working through my IBS for a good few years now

Nice one, thanks Guy!!

:joy: :joy: Andy!!

That is a great idea, thank you! It’s not local, but it might be affordable to spend the night in a local hotel and stash the bag the night before - great idea, thanks so much!!
