Home made energy drink recipe

I have an energy drink recipe that came from a coach who used to work with @pav. I made up a batch today.

  1. Mix 80g of maltodextrin, 40g of fructose, 0.8g of salt and 0.2g of potassium chloride with water until reaching 1l. If you need a higher salt intake, change maltodextrin for highly branched cyclic dextrin and triple the amount of salt and potassium chloride.

With some gut training you can mix this up to 120 g/litre… This will give you over 500 kcal / hour.

This was a great drink. Used it loads. Helps to have a big dispenser and mix a load up as that is a ton of powder to try to put in one bidon!

Thank you to Aitor for this originally and @Kicikacsa for posting!

Yeah @pav, what I mixed up yesterday was 1.8 kg or enough for 15 litres at full strength.
15 liters:
80 x 15 = 1200g
40 x15 = 600g
0.6 x 16 = 9g
0.2 x 15 = 3g

Another good one - thank you. What do you use to mix it up in?

I mix it up in an old high5 energy drink tub. I add it about 1/6 at a time so that it is all layered and then shake and spin the tub until I am bored.

Thank you Julian - this is really useful.

I have a small Gatorade dispenser. Really useful as Julian says.

Did you just pick that up on Amazon? Struggling to see good ones - they all seem small

It was a leftover from some energy drink like the photo.

that I bought. This kind of thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/Britten-Sweetshop-4-5litre-capacity-weddings/dp/B07846QX7K/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=2HYTADZPV5KZN&keywords=large+plastic+storage+tubs+with+lids&qid=1680795441&sprefix=+large+plastic+storage+tub%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

Never really thought about this! Could save a fortune though. Thanks.

Yes I had that from Aitor and use that base although tweaked it a little depending on my given use case. I use electrolyte tablets or mix sometimes to add some flavour as long as they are low carb.

Another tip is mix a batch and pre load your bidons for the week then just add water when you need to use them.

And another is pre mix some with water and keep in the fridge so you have a bottle ready for your training.

this is my goto enery drink mix recipe

one scoop of this ($3.31 per 19oz tub, makes 8 quarts per canister!)

Kool-Aid Summer Blast Tropical Punch Flavored Powdered Drink Mix (19 oz Canister) https://a.co/d/5G0I5on

and a pinch of this…(yes we buy it by the 3lb tub!)

Maldon Salt, Sea Salt Flakes, 3.1 lb, Bulk Tub, Kosher, Natural, Handcrafted, Gourmet, Pyramid Crystals https://a.co/d/g4XXZ80

the two combined tastes SO good! kool-aid by itself is so sweet it makes me wretch…but a pinch of maldon salt smooths it out! … The combination also keeps me from getting cottnmouth/dry mouth.
